English 101: Writing Sample

Time Limit: 30 mins.

Directions

Write one paragraph on two of the following topics, chosen from different groups: two paragraphs altogether, only one paragraph on each topic, one from group A and one from group B. In both cases, keep the topic narrow and well focused, but develop both topics fully and specifically. Follow the principles you already know relating to paragraph structure and development. Make sure that each paragraph has a clear and specific point of view. Save some time to proofread and edit your paragraphs.

2.   What you liked best about the summer break

3.   The best or worst thing about your dorm room

4.   What you most look forward to after graduation

5.   What is best or worst about local law enforcement (perhaps only in your own community).

Format

1.   Put each paragraph on a separate page, and use double spacing.
