  4              Dolphin, “Improving Writing and Thinking,”1-11. Exercises 1.1-3, 1.6. Always write out responses to exercises to be submitted at the beginning of class; do not write them just in the textbook. And be sure to do your own work.

  9              Dolphin, “Parts of Speech” 16-22: nouns, pronouns, adjectives. Exercises 2.1-3. Remember to write out your responses to hand in at the beginning of class, here and below. For these exercises, for instance, you will need to write the relevant words on a separate sheet of paper.

                  Honky 4, two middle paragraphs: List two examples cited in each paragraph, one related to the father, the other related to the mother.
