Peer Review of In-Class Paragraph

1. Exchange paragraphs with a classmate (no more than three students per group).

2. Read the classmate's paragraph carefully, and then respond to it according to the following directions. Type your responses and give the writer a printed copy. Do not make any actual corrections on the other student's paper. You may, however, underline what you are sure is an error, but let the writer of the paper make the correction. You may print this page and respond in longhand.

3. Is there a clear, well-limited topic sentence? Briefly explain, here and below.

4. Are there adequate details or examples or sufficient explanation?

5. Is there a sense of unity and coherence in the paragraph as a whole?

6. Are there any errors in spelling, grammar, or punctuation that need to be corrected? Be sure that you are correct in your own assessment! Remember not to make corrections directly on another student's paper.

7. Discuss both your own paragraph and the one(s) you read with the classmates in your group. If there are any disagreements, try to reach a consensus about them.

8. Revise and edit your own paragraph. Then proofread it to catch any additional errors.

9. Submit to the teacher printed copies of your preliminary draft, your first "final" draft, and your final revised draft. Also submit your review of a classmate's paper.
