DescriptionREL 312: Old Testament Studies is offered every spring and can cover any topic related to upper level studies in the Hebrew Scriptures. This version of the course is dedicated to the study of Genesis. We begin with reading Ancient Near Eastern Literature which helps us to contextualize Genesis in historical, literary, and anthropological perspective. We then closely read Genesis together as a class. We then closely engage with Karen Armstrong's book In the Beginning: A New Interpretation of Genesis (Random House, 1996). Students complete two presentations, conduct research, produce annotated bibliographies, and write a term paper. |
