Course Description
The Bible as Literature provides an introduction to the academic study of Biblical Literature. "Biblical Literature" is a broad category of ancient texts comprising the Hebrew Scriptures, the Jewish Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha, the Christian New Testament, and other early Christian writings.
Following academic methods appropriate to the critical study of religion and literature, we strive to understand the many genres of Biblical Literature — such as story, history, poetry, wisdom, prophecy, letters, and law. We investigate how the narratives, images, and themes of Biblical literature have permeated and shaped our world.
This is a writing and reading intensive course, and it meets the Mars Hill College GE connector requirements for Literature. Prerequisite/Co-requisite: ENG 112 or the equivalent. Normally offered every other Spring.
