Course Description
REL 112 at Mars Hill College introduces the processes and results of critical academic inquiry into the earliest Christian writings, namely, the writings comprising the New Testament, the apostolic fathers, and certain Christian "apocrypha." We investigate these writings in an effort to study earliest Christianity from the perspectives of the "history of religions" and of "historical descriptive theology." We emphasize contextual close reading, proper techniques of research and writing, and comparative and structural studies of early Christian texts.
Offered every third semester, this course is required for all REL/PHIL majors at MHC.
